Alexander Ovechkin Illustration
Fan art of hometown ‘Ovi’ from the 2014 Sochi Olympics
First things first, I’m a HUGE hockey fan, and specifically of the Washington Capitals. I’ve been playing for years since I was 8 years old. As a freelance graphic designer based in the greater Washington Metropolitan area, I’ve been spending a lot of time honing my craft and working towards a goal of being able to illustrate essentially anything from a photo by creating shapes and layers to formulate what you see me holding in the picture above.
Why Ovechkin? First of all, the dude is AWESOME. Growing up as a Washington Capitals fan, who else to be inspired by to illustrate some fun graphic work. Using Adobe Illustrator (my secret weapon) to create this in what took approximately ~8 hours to create. Even more reason to illustrate Ovechkin is this sample when I was dabbling into the illustration program in 2010 when I was attending University of Maryland, College Park.

As you can see, I’ve come quite a long way since then. Creating this was joy and was strictly a personal project used for entertainment to my hometown and to create something that local businesses and friends could relate to. If there happens to be more interest in this kind of work, I would love to create it for fans. Suggestions are welcome!
